Apparently we just celebrate any old anniversary these days. Google redid their logo to celebrate the 46th anniversary of Star Trek and apparently that is a newsworthy event. What’s so special about 46? Did some one forget last year when 45 was upon us? Did they jump the gun on the 50th? And if not, what sort of plans are there to top today’s Google doodle. More importantly, today is the 700th anniversary of the death of King Ferdinand IV of Castile (thanks Wikipedia). It’s also the 100th birthday of David Packard, one of the co-founders of Hewlett-Packard (thanks again Wikipedia). These events are completely irrelevant to the modern world, however. What has been decided by the Google gods to be the most important thing in the world today is that 46 god damn years ago, Star Trek first aired. Hooray!
